OOTD // Check Print A-Line Mini Skirt

07:04

Since the beginning of the month I've had a cocktail making masterclass booked for my friend's birthday which we've both been looking forward to since.

Its necessary as a girl you always plan your outfit a good few weeks before and all month I was coming up with so many possible outfit choices until I found one that i liked. But again, being the typical girl I am, found myself changing my mind and looking for another outfit the day of the event. As I  frantically wandered around the department store "Outfit" in town I came across these garments that I instantly fell in love with.

Out of all the clothing I came across this gorgeous a-line check mini skirt from Topshop stood out for me with the print. The red, black and tan check print appealed to me due to being strongly similar to luxury fashion house Burberry's signature plaid print.

The skirt also features a large, square-shaped pocket on the left hand side of the skirt and a black zip that fastens down the middle of the skirt. The style of the skirt reminds me of Mary Quant's famous design of the mini skirt. Mary Quant is a fashion designer who became an iconic figure in the 1960's for London-based youth fashion culture. Mary Quant was the designer and founder of the mini skirt where she encouraged young women to dress to please themselves and to treat fashion as a way of life. Mary Quant's mini skirt designs reflected the "Mod" era in terms of shape, style and colour, which I think the skirt from Topshop I bought very much is under the influence by.

I teamed my outfit up with a stunning pair of almond coloured court heels from Dorothy Perkins to complement the colours of my outfit. Court heels are closely associated with "kitten" heels which originated in the 1950's and worn by fashion-conscious women. Both heels known for their short heel (5cm height), the kitten heel was introduced as a fashion attire for young teenage girls and was implemented for ease of walk and mobility so young girls could get used to walking in heels.

Court heels are currently my favourite type of footwear because in my opinion they provide a sophisticated and formal look. I love the pointed low-cut shape of the shoe and also love the two-colour contrast with the black ankle strap.
