Textiles // Jersey Wear S/S '16: "Soft Pop" Trend
07:06
When researching into next years jersey-wear trends for Spring/Summer '16 on trend forecasting website www.wgsn.com, I came across a trend called "Soft Pop".
The trend is inspired from contemporary pop culture and is a creative, playful trend that holds a new gap in the market for genderless design. The trend focuses on the type of textiles used within the creation of garments. Examples include synthetic materials, alongside classic summer fabrics. Sportswear fabrics are also included but adopt a subverted look, these include: matte latex, malleable mesh, PU-coated cotton and high-stretch silk and are coloured in shades of fondant pink and hot pink.
The colour palette for the "Soft Pop" trend are pastel colours but also bright pink, blue, green, purple, orange and yellows are used. These colours can be seen outlined in black and white lines.
Contrasts -
The trend features patterns, colours and textures combined and contrasted for a contemporary take on preppy tailoring. Recycled yarns and high-shine synthetics are paired with graphic outlines to provide a cartoon-like look.
Collage Stripes -
Collage stripes are created in pastel and bright colours to give a continuous pattern.
Waffle Structure -
Honeycomb structured inspired. Waffle weaves are placed as lightweight texture within textiles. This type of texture is coloured in shades of cool blue, peppermint green and custard yellow.
The style of the "Soft pop" trend features in the following catwalks:
