Textiles // Jersey Wear S/S '16: "Past Modern" Trend

07:11

When researching into next years jersey-wear trends for Spring/Summer '16 on trend forecasting website www.wgsn.com, I came across a trend called "Past Modern".

The trend is all about looking back to the past - hence the name - and how past trends are reworked and updated in order to create a contemporary trend for 2016. Past archives are explored and inspiration has been taken from handcrafted textiles, vintage work wear and classic tailoring. These are combined with the latest techniques, yarns and finishes which has left us with the "Past Modern" trend: a collection of refined, stripped-back fabrics for 2016.

The colour palette for the "Past Modern" trend are neutrals and whites, balanced with warm mid-tones for a sophisticated, timeless palette.

Textured Whites -
The trend includes white-on-white textures, such as: cotton, mesh-like leno and embossed raffia which is given new tailoring.

Reclaimed Archive -
Antique fabrics are found with floral prints, hand-embroidered lace and pulled thread-work.

Matte Metallics -
Textured contrasts and little decorated fabrics are incorporated with matte metallic yarns.

Romantic Sheers -
Semi-sheer fabrics are used to layer, wrap, drape and ruche delicate crepes, lightweight cottons and silk.

Features of the "Past Modern" trend can be seen highlighted in the following catwalks:
