Trend & Styling Trip // Kings Road

11:26

The second location I will be visiting for my Trend & Styling trip is Kings Road. Kings Road is a major street stretching through Chelsea and Fulham, (both in West London), and is associated with 1960's style.

Kings Road was named from its function of a private road used by King Charles II to travel. It remained a private royal road until 1830 but people with connections were still able to use it. Some of the houses today still date back from the 18th century.

During the 1960s the street became a symbol of "mod" culture where Mary Quant's famous mini skirt was worn by the women of society. More-over, in the 1970s Kings Street was home to Malcolm McLaren's and Vivienne Westwood's boutique "Let It Rock", which was later named "Sex" in 1974. Kings Street was the centre for counterculture and has a reputation for being one of London's most fashionable shopping streets.

By visiting Kings Road I am hoping to find people who are very much influenced by genres of music, in particular indie and rock music, to complement the "mod" culture which the street became a symbol of in the 1960s. I am hoping to find people who dress smooth and sophisticated with men wearing button-down collar shirts, thin ties and parkas. For women I am hoping to find them also dressed sophisticated in mini skirts or trousers, flat shoes and minimal make-up.
