Spring/Summer '15 Trends // Gingham
08:46Very happy to announce my all-time favourite trend is back! That's right, the simple grid-lock pattern of gingham is back into season this Spring/Summer '15 and still remains to provide that cute look!
When originally imported into Europe in the 17th century, gingham was a striped fabric. It wasn't until the mid 18th century gingham was produced in the mills of Manchester, England and started to be woven into checked and plaid patterns - often being in blue and white.
Then came along French actress in the Fifties, Brigitte Bardot, who showcased gingham in a more appealing and sugar-coated way. Brigitte Bardot was first photographed wearing a frilly gingham bikini, and then was seen wearing gingham again in her second marriage. She wore a pastel pink gingham wedding dress with a scoop neck, tiny waist and three-quarter length sleeves. This started a trend which women across the world adopted and then went on to causing a shortage of the fabric in France.
The collections for Spring/Summer '15 have seen the tiny check-print pattern reappear in catwalks with Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, Altuzarra and Bottega Veneta all showcasing their reinterpretations.
