Spring/Summer '15 Trends // Bohemian

08:30

The Bohemian trend is set to make an appearance in Spring 2015 with designs from Valentino, Dries Van Noten, Vera Wang, Lanvin and Rochas. The use of thin, see-through and floaty fabric portrays a softer approach in style and the varied use of colours and prints embraces the trend in a natural yet romantic way; perfect for embracing Spring.

In modern day, the term "Bohemian" is applied to people who live unconventional, usually artistic lives. However, the original "Bohemians" in the 18th century were travellers or refugees from central Europe.

The mid-to-late 1980s saw variants of the rah-rah skirt (which originated with cheerleaders) combined with denim and leather to create an artistic "Bohemian" and "Grunge" look. The Bohemian" style then went on to take inspiration from the "Hippies" but with its own twist. In the late 1990s the term "Hippie chic" was applied to Tom Ford's collections for the Italian house of Gucci. Nowadays the "Bohemian" style can still be identified as being artistic and taking inspiration from "Hippie" and "Grunge" influences, but the style is more fashionable and modern in a way to look spiritual, natural and romantic.
